Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday (April 29) announced that the Delhi Cabinet has approved the draft bill to regulate fees in private and government schools in the national capital. 

While addressing the press conference, Gupta said that that government has taken a “bold and historic” step by approving the Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025. 

Delhi CM also highlighted that the issue of fee hike was discussed widely in recent days and there was “panic” among the parents. She also revealed that the government had received several complaints regarding “harassment” of students in the name of fee hike.

“The previous governments in Delhi made no provision to prevent fee hike. There was no guideline to help government prevent fee hike by private schools,” she said.

This follows an announcement by the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education (DoE) on April 16, stating that it has taken action against unaided private schools found guilty of illegally increasing fees. The actions include initiating de-recognition proceedings and the potential takeover of school management.

Meanwhile, Education minister Ashish Sood also told the media that the Bill proposes formation of a three-tier committees to regulate fee hikes.
