The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) dismissed recent reports claiming a 15% reduction in the syllabus for class 10 and 12 students for the upcoming 2025 board exams. In an official clarification issued on Friday, the Board confirmed that these reports are baseless and not in line with any official CBSE announcements.

The CBSE statement clarified that no changes have been made to the syllabus, examination system, or internal assessment structure for the upcoming 2025 board exams. The Board emphasized that any updates regarding policy changes are communicated exclusively through its official website and formal circulars, and that there has been no such notification about a syllabus reduction or the introduction of open-book exams in specific subjects.

The confusion appears to have arisen from misleading reports circulating online and in newspapers, which the CBSE has now formally refuted.

In related news, the Ministry of Education has tasked CBSE with preparing a proposal to introduce two board exams per year, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Indian Express reported that a proposal, still under consideration, suggests that class 12 students might have the option to appear for a second board exam in June starting in 2026. This shift is in accordance with the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE).

For the time being, the schedule for the 2025 board exams for classes 10 and 12 is set to begin on February 15, 2025. While the full datesheet is yet to be released, students can expect practical exams, project work, and internal assessments to start from January 1, 2025, for all CBSE-affiliated schools, both in India and abroad.

Another important update concerns the announcement of exam results. Continuing the policy from 2024, CBSE will not declare toppers, distinctions, or overall division rankings for students in the 2025 exams. The Board also stated that it will not be calculating or publishing the aggregate percentage of marks for class 10 and 12 students.

In short, the CBSE has reaffirmed that there are no major changes to the syllabus or assessment system for the 2025 board exams, and that students should rely on official sources for accurate information.
