Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an engaging discussion with students during the 8th edition of his annual Pariksha Pe Charcha event on Monday. Moving away from the traditional town hall format, Modi opted for a more informal and interactive session with around 35 students at Delhi’s Sunder Nursery.

The event, which was broadcast across the country, saw students, teachers and parents tuning in from various parts of the country. Addressing students’ concerns about exams, stress management and personal development, Modi covered a range of topics, including leadership, meditation and the importance of knowledge beyond exams.

PM Modi emphasised that knowledge (gyan) and examinations should not be viewed as the same thing. “One should not see exams as the be-all and end-all of life,” he said, urging students to approach their studies with a growth mindset rather than being consumed by academic pressure. He highlighted that society often creates unnecessary stress around board exams, making students feel as though their entire future depends on their scores. Instead, he encouraged them to keep challenging themselves and aim for self-improvement rather than competition.

The prime minister advised students to manage their time effectively and plan their schedules wisely. Comparing students’ concentration to that of a batsman in action, he encouraged them to stay focused on their studies without being distracted by external pressures. “A batsman in a stadium ignores the noise around him and focuses on the next ball. Similarly, students should focus on their studies rather than worrying about what others expect from them,” he explained.

Modi also addressed parents, cautioning them against using their children as models to showcase to society. He urged them to refrain from comparing their children with others and instead focus on nurturing their strengths and interests. “Every child is unique and should be encouraged to explore their passions,” he said.
