Assam Board paper leak: Assam’s education system is facing fresh controversy after the Class 11 Mathematics exam was cancelled because of alleged question paper leaks. On Thursday, state Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced that the Higher Secondary First Year (Class 11) Mathematics examination scheduled to take place on March 21, 2025, has been postponed. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Pegu stated, ‘’The Higher Secondary First Year Mathematics exam, scheduled for March 21, 2025, (afternoon session) has been postponed because of unavoidable reasons. The new date & further updates will be notified soon.’’
Mathematics paper leak confirmed by the officials
A senior official from the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) later confirmed the leak to PTI. ‘’The Mathematics paper has been leaked and this is why the examination was cancelled. We are enquiring about the matter and will initiate legal action soon,’’ the official stated. The investigation is also going on, he further added.
Barpeta Class 9 English paper also called off
The situation escalated when the Class 9 English annual exam in Barpeta district which was scheduled for Thursday was cancelled after the question paper reportedly went viral on social media platforms.
Barpeta Inspector of Schools Ratul Kumar Das has released an official circular to school heads in the district. ‘’ I would like to inform you that the English paper of the Class 9 annual examination which was scheduled to be conducted on March 20 is hereby postponed due to unavoidable circumstances,’’ he mentioned.
An official from the District-Level Internal Examination Committee (DLIEC) has confirmed the leak. ‘’We suspect the paper went viral on social media. We are verifying all the claims. We could not take any risk and decided to cancel the examination,’’ the official stated to PTI.
Both incidents have created confusion among students and have raised serious concerns related to exam security.
