Boycott Turkey: In a significant move aligned with growing national sentiment, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, has officially suspended all Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye. The university made the announcement on Thursday, just a day after Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) took a similar step.
Due to national security considerations, any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and any institution affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye stands suspended with immediate effect, until further orders.

Jamia Millia…
The decision was announced through an official statement on JMI’s X account, “Due to national security considerations, any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and any institution affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye stands suspended with immediate effect, until further orders. Jamia Millia Islamia stands firmly with the Nation.”
National security at the core of decision
The back-to-back announcements from JNU and JMI highlight a growing concern within Indian academic institutions regarding Türkiye’s recent stance on matters of national interest. Both universities emphasised that national security was the primary factor behind their decisions.
JNU, in its announcement on May 14, had stated, “Due to National Security considerations, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University, Türkiye stands suspended until further notice. JNU stands with the Nation.”
Travel and tourism join the boycott
Turkey and Azerbaijan — two countries that have shown open support for Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The boycott call has also transcended to other sectors.
Travel platforms like Ixigo, EaseMyTrip, Cox & Kings, Go Homestays, and Pickyourtrail announced immediate suspension of travel packages to both Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
