Amazon India on Monday said it has created over 1,50,000 seasonal jobs across its operations network of fulfilment centres, sort centres and last-mile delivery stations ahead of the festive season. These jobs include direct and indirect opportunities in over 400 cities across India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Raipur, Jalandhar, the e-commerce giant said in a statement.
Amazon announces inclusive hiring trends
The festive season hiring, the company said, has created opportunities for thousands of women associates and over 2,000 PWDs (persons with disabilities) in its network. “This festive season, we continue to be focused on providing fast and reliable deliveries to customers in every serviceable pin code across India. For this, we have strengthened our fulfilment and logistics network with over 150,000 additional people to help us manage increased customer demand efficiently.
One digital talent solutions firm estimates that the upcoming festival season is expected to give a boost to gig hiring, generating up to 2,00,000 jobs across various sectors, including retail and e-commerce. Another report by Adecco India, a workforce solutions firm, pegged the festive season hiring at over 2.16 lakh seasonal jobs in the second half of 2025, marking a 15-20% year-on-year increase in gig and temporary employment.
Boost in gig hirings
This rise in festive hiring is being driven by sectors, including retail, e-commerce, BFSI, logistics, hospitality, travel, and FMCG, the company said. Talent company Randstad India has estimated that gig roles are expected to cross the 11-million mark in this financial year, driven by a 35-40% increase in quick-commerce hiring and a 25-30% rise in e-commerce staffing.
Experts said that seasonal hiring is no longer a reaction but has become a strategy for many large companies. For instance, the companies are using gig roles not just to bridge temporary gaps, but to test new workforce models that are leaner, more inclusive, and hyperlocal, especially in tier 2 and 3 cities that are emerging as high-growth consumption hubs.
Shilpa Subhaschandra, chief commercial officer (operational talent solutions) at Randstad India, observed that with the festive season arriving earlier than usual this year, companies are shifting from reactive hiring to proactive workforce planning. “The combination of a muted summer sales period and early monsoons has led organisations across retail, e-commerce, logistics, and quick commerce to fast-track their seasonal hiring efforts, ensuring they are fully prepared ahead of the demand surge,” Subhaschandra said.
Last month, the HR solutions firm Adecco India had said that e-commerce and retail are going to dominate the job scenario by creating 35-40% of the total seasonal jobs. The e-commerce and retail companies are particularly prioritising multilingual capabilities, customer-handling skills, and digital proficiency, especially for roles in in-store sales, credit card promotions, and delivery fulfilment.
Abhinav Singh, VP (operations), India & Australia at Amazon, said, many of those hired continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, with a significant number returning to work with us year after year.
