Both Samsung and Apple are about to launch their respective smartphones in 2017 and with the amazing technology that is expected of them to unveil it is going to be a great clash of the titans. The most interesting speculation that has come up for the iPhone 8 is that it could have a curved flexible OLED display panel, but it is expected to be present only in the premium devices. Notably, Apple reportedly signed an $2.6 billion deal with Samsung for OLED panels early in 2016. These screens will trigger a great change in the smartphone market as they are much thinner and can also be curved. Apple, known for the smartphone camera might see a great overhaul in the next iPhone, as it is speculated to get even better if the OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) is there for both the cameras.

Meanwhile, Samsung which found itself in a lot of negative criticism does not seem to let that fact pose a hindrance to the development of new technologies and incorporating them into its devices. And this can give birth to a great new flagship smartphone in 2017. The leaks suggest that Samsung’s next device, the Galaxy S8 will bring forth innovative and novel functionalities and the display being the most interesting feature for the Galaxy S8 device too. Samsung might remove the fingerprint sensor and the novel way it might incorporate in the display panel will end in a really think device. Reports also suggest that the Galaxy S8 will be the first smartphone to get the all new Bluetooth 5.0.

The festivity around the Apple iPhone 7 is not over, and many leaks and rumours of the next device have started doing the rounds. The company will reportedly celebrate the 10th anniversary of the famous iPhone next year by introducing a drastically upgraded version of the flagship device. History suggests that Apple should bring the iPhone 7S smartphone but if there are too many changes, the company might just name it the iPhone8. A Business Insider report had earlier suggested that Apple is working on the latest iPhone in its office in Herzliya, Israel.

Samsung is globally the largest smartphone maker and it had announced that it had acquired Viv Labs Inc, which is a firm run by a co-creator of Apple’s Siri voice assistant. The tech giant is planning to introduce the San Jose-based company’s AI platform, into the next Galaxy devices. The feature might also be incorporated into voice-assistant services in home appliances and wearables. As far as the screen os Galaxy phones are concerned, the company will use Y-OCTA which is a very new technology for fingerprint scanning. This will be embedded in the display panel itself without the need of third-party manufacturer. This will reduce the size a lot as earlier layers of touch sensors were placed amidst a glass cover and display panel.

Meanwhile, Apple had reportedly wanted the production of OLED to be sped up and wishes to get better screens than that of Samsung. The Cupertino giant is reported to be testing over 10 prototypes of the iPhone 8 so that the price can be reduced as much as possible since the OLED screens are still quite costly. There have been reports in KGI Securities and the likes that iPhone 8 will feature the first wireless charging technology along with quicker charging speeds.

But, Samsung needs to watch its steps and be careful with its hardware, especially after losing the trust of users following the debacle of the ‘exploding’ Galaxy Note 7. But there is still a chance to manufacture a new market by pivoting its attention on the new technologies like the Y-Octa and bezel-less display panels as well as in making people understand the significance of it. After a $6 billion hit, owing to the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung needs its next flagship to be a hit. Meanwhile, Apple needs to capitalise on the growing anticipation. Regardless, the clash of the giants will be an interesting thing to witness and how other manufacturers react to new technology.
