Pastor Bajinder Singh, a self-styled “prophet” in Punjab, has been convicted of sexual harassment in a 2018 case. A Mohali court found him guilty, while acquitting five co-accused.
The verdict against Pastor Bajinder Singh
The verdict follows a hearing on March 19th, where Singh and five co-accused appeared before the court to address allegations brought by a woman from Zirakpur, Punjab. The survivor testified that Singh sexually assaulted her at his residence in Sector 63, Chandigarh, and recorded the act. She further claimed that he threatened to release the video on social media if she reported the incident or refused to comply with his demands. Singh had previously been granted bail in the case.
Singh, who is known for his “Yashu Yashu” sermons and enjoys a significant following, was later arrested at Delhi airport as he attempted to board a flight to London for a “healing event.” His arrest sparked protests from his supporters, who demanded the withdrawal of the FIR filed against him.
The allegations against Bajinder Singh
However, the conviction marks only one chapter in a series of allegations against the pastor. In recent weeks, Singh has faced a barrage of additional assault and harassment claims. A viral video, which surfaced just days ago, shows him physically abusing a man and a woman in his office, inciting public outrage.
A former church employee has also come forward, alleging that Singh stalked and harassed female volunteers and manhandled women who raised concerns. She cited the video incident as the reason for her resignation after years of service.
Earlier in the month, a 22-year-old woman in Kapurthala filed a separate case against Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation. Singh has denied these allegations, claiming they are part of a conspiracy orchestrated by a rival pastor.
The conviction in the 2018 case and the mounting allegations have placed Bajinder Singh at the center of a growing controversy, raising serious questions about his conduct and the safety of those involved in his ministry. The court’s ruling has sent shockwaves through his community, and the ongoing investigations into the additional allegations are expected to further intensify scrutiny of the pastor’s actions.
