A 26-year-old IT professional was allegedly shot dead by her boyfriend in a hotel room in Pune, Maharashtra, police said on Sunday. The incident took place at the Oyo Town House Hotel in the Hinjewadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Rishabh Nigam, was arrested from Mumbai and a pistol was recovered from him, ANI reported.

After police received information about a firing incident, they reached the hotel and recovered the woman’s body. The body was on the floor and blood stains were found in the room.

Rishabh came under the police’s scanner after CCTV footage from the hotel showed him exiting the room late at night. Police then started scanning vehicles at checkpoints and caught him.

According to senior police officials from Pimpri Chinchwad police station of Pune district, the victim is identified as Vandana Dwivedi who is from Lucknow and had travelled to Pune after being called by her boyfriend to a hotel.

After allegedly shooting her, the accused went on the run but was later apprehended in Mumbai.

Further investigation is underway.
