In a horrifying case of drunk driving, a 62-year-old factory owner allegedly drove his SUV through multiple pedestrians and vehicles in Jaipur, killing three people and seriously injuring six others. He has been arrested. The incident occurred on Monday night, spanning a seven-kilometre stretch from MI Road to the narrow lanes under the Nahargarh police station.

According to police, the driver—identified as Usman Khan, a resident of Rana Colony in Shastri Nagar—first struck a scooter near the Santosh Mata Temple. Instead of stopping, Khan continued driving recklessly, hitting more pedestrians and vehicles, including several parked near the police station. His vehicle was finally stopped when it got stuck in a narrow alley, with the help of locals and police.

Who is Usman Khan?

Khan, who owns a factory manufacturing iron beds in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area. He was found heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. A medical examination confirmed his drunk state. He has been detained, and an FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the father of deceased victim Mamta Kanwar. He is a Congress worker and has now been expelled by the party.

Amid mounting outrage, the Jaipur City District Congress Committee expelled Khan from its district executive committee. He was Jaipur City District Congress Vice President, according to ANI.

BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya accused Khan of deliberately committing the act, demanding the harshest punishment and claiming political interference in the case.

Victims identified

The deceased have been identified as Mamta Kanwar (50), Awadhesh Pareek (37), and Virendra Singh (48). The injured include Monesh Soni (28), Mohammad Jalaluddin (44), Deepika Saini (17), Vijay Narayan (65), Jebunnisha (50), and Anshika (24). All are currently receiving treatment in the trauma ward of SMS Hospital.

Tensions in the area prompted deployment of police from four nearby stations. Meanwhile, the investigations are ongoing.
