Other scandals unearthed
While further investigation into the matter is underway, the CBI also arrested a Tax Inspector and a tout middleman for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000. This took place on July 29 when the officers demanded a token amount as bribe for not “taking action on the petitions received…and for not conducting an income tax raid,” a CBI report revealed.
However, the recovery of such huge amounts in cash and kind is not an uncommon occurrence. Earlier this year in May, cash worth Rs 2.5 crores and multiple properties and assets were found from the House of BaikunthaNath Sarangi, Chief Engineer, Odisha Rural Works.
