Owing to two western disturbances, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied with thunderstorms are likely over the western Himalayan region till February 21. Under this influence, heavy snowfall is predicted at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh.

On February 20, given the atmospheric conditions, a warning for an orange alert was issued in Jammu and Kashmir and a red alert in Himachal Pradesh.

On Monday, parts of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, and higher reaches of Kullu and Chamba districts of Himachal Pradesh received moderate to heavy snowfall, the MeT office mentioned.

The weather office issued a “red” alert for “heavy” to “very heavy” rain/snowfall and thunderstorms accompanied by hail, gusty winds, and lightning in seven out of 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh today.
