The Indian Meteorological Department in its forecast has predicted that heatwave conditions are expected to spread over south Peninsular India and are set to lower down further. Meanwhile, a wet spell along with gusty winds and thunderstorms can take place over East and south Peninsular India till May 11th.
Heatwave conditions in THESE states:
According to IMD, heatwave conditions are anticipated over Interior Karnataka today, and in East Rajasthan on May 8th and 9th, and similar weather conditions are expected in West Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh from May 8th to 10th, 2024.
A cyclonic circulation is present over northeast Assam and another one over northeast Madhya Pradesh in the lower tropospheric levels. Strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal towards East & Northeast India are forecasted to prevail at lower tropospheric levels for the next 2-3 days.
IMD’S rainfall prediction:
Under the influence mentioned above Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura are likely to experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds over the next 6 days. Heavy rainfall is expected to take place over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Yanam today.
West Bengal & Sikkim are anticipated to have fairly widespread to light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning & squally winds from May 8th to 11th. Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha may experience scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds during the same period. East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh may also experience similar weather patterns from today and will continue till May 11th. There is also a chance of Hailstorm activity over Vidarbha today.
Temperature To Watch:
There is no notable change in maximum temperatures expected over most parts of the plains of Northwest India, except West Rajasthan where temperatures are likely to rise by 2-3°C over the next 2 days. A dip in maximum temperatures by about 3-4°C is likely over East India within the next 24 hours, with no major change thereafter. There is no significant change in maximum temperatures likely to occur over the rest of India.
