The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has updated that dense to very dense fog is likely to continue over Delhi, and parts of northwest & central India during the next 3-4 days.

The fog conditions are likely to continue in the early hours/morning hours in many parts of Delhi between December 27 and 31st including some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh.

The dense fog conditions will also affect the visibility in states like Odisha, Uttarakhand, and pockets of Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland along with other northeastern states.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the weather forecasting agency has predicted dry weather along with moderate to dense fog over central Kashmir, Pulwama, and Baramulla till December 31.

Western disturbance to bring rainfalls across northwest India 


IMD has also issued an advisory stating that a western disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from December 30. Under its influence and its interaction with lower-level easterly winds, light isolated rainfall is likely over northwest & adjoining central India from December 30 – January 02.

IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall over Coastal Tamil Nadu from 30th December 2023 to 1st January 2024.
In Jammu and Kashmir, there will be light rain and snow in scattered places, along with cloudy skies during January 1-2, as per IMD.

Change in minimum temperatures

“The minimum temperatures are in the range of 6-10°C over most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi & Western UP and 11-12°C over most parts of Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and some parts of north Chhattisgarh & Jharkhand,” IMD mentioned in a communique.

Further, the temperature is likely to be above normal (2-3°C) over some parts of Punjab, Delhi, West Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and many parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal Gujarat and northeast India.
