The Congress party in Kerala expressed strong confidence that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will win the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, previously held by Rahul Gandhi, with a record margin.
AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, addressing reporters, stated that the party is optimistic about securing victory in the high-range constituency. He noted that while preparations for the election were underway, recent devastating landslides in Wayanad district had impacted their plans.
Venugopal said, “As we said before, Priyanka Gandhi will win the constituency with a record margin.”
He added that although the party typically refrains from conducting programs in affected areas, the Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF) workers will engage in various activities once the election is officially announced.
According to the law, the by-election must take place within six months, with the deadline set for November. “So, we are ready for the election,” Venugopal confirmed.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced in June that Rahul Gandhi would retain the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and vacate Wayanad for his sister, Priyanka.
Rahul had previously won both constituencies and was required to relinquish one seat within 14 days of the Lok Sabha results, which were declared on June 4.
