Parliament Special Session Day 1 Latest Update: Prime Minister Narendra Modi got emotional as he spoke about his first term as the MP during his Special Session Address today. Reminiscing his ‘platform to Parliament’ journey, PM Modi said that when he entered the Parliament in May 2014, he could have never thought about how a kid from a humble background living on a railway platform would get a chance to enter Parliament one day.
Bidding adieu to the old building of Parliament, the Prime Minister spoke extensively about the past – from India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s ‘tryst with destiny’ speech to his government’s big decision of introducing ‘one nation, one tax’.
Ahead of the Special Session, while addressing media, PM Modi said that this brief-yet-crucial session would see some ‘historic decisions.’ However, Day 1 of the Special Session was largely dedicated to special farewell notes for the old Parliament building. The second phase of the special session would commence in the new building of Parliament tomorrow, which happens to be Ganesh Chaturthi.
PM Modi’s last speech in Old Building of Parliament
During his speech, PM Modi lauded the efforts and contributions of the doyens of Parliament. ‘Nehru Ji, Shastri Ji, Vajpayee Ji’ – this is the day to remember the remarkable era of the stalwarts of India’s rich parliamentary democracy. He also spoke about the day Atal ji’s govt fell because of just one vote. Saluting ‘every single brick’ of the Old Parliament building, PM Modi also said that the lawmakers would enter new building with “new hope and confidence”.
