Jet Airways Boeing-777 was caught in a “hijack” drama on February 19, after losing contact with the Air Traffic Control (ATC), following which as a precautionary measure, German Air Force intercepted the flight bound for London. A video of which, shot by a British Airways plane trailing it captured the footage. The video, which has gone viral on social media had garnered over 10 lakh views and shares. The Jet Airways flight 9W-118, carrying 330 passengers and 15 crew members had lost contact with the ATC. The German Air Force, as a result, had taken the precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the crew and the passengers.

The Jet Airways flight 9W-118, which left on Thursday, was going from Mumbai to London and was flying over Cologne city in Germany. German Air Force fighters first located the plane and thereafter escorted the Jet Airways flight to the flight managed to establish contact with the ATC. Thereafter, the emergency was called off by the authorities concerned and the Indian aircraft was allowed to continue to London. According to ti reports, Jet Airways has reported the matter to the concerned authorities including the DGCA and the crew of 9W-118 had been de-rostered pending investigation.

“Contact between Jet Airways flight 9W 118, from Mumbai to London Heathrow, on February 16, 2017, and the local ATC was briefly lost while flying over German airspace. As a precaution, the German Air Force deployed its aircraft to ensure the safety of the flight and its guests. Communication was safely restored within a few minutes,” a Jet Airways statement here said. “The flight with 330 guests and 15 crew subsequently landed at London without incident,” the statement added.
