Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president and MLA Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) has been named in a police remand report in connection with the violent assault on the Vikarabad district collector and other revenue officials, which took place earlier this week in Lagcherla village, Dudyal Mandal, Vikarabad district, Telangana.

This came after the arrest of former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, who was taken into custody from his residence in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, and brought to the CI office in Parigi for questioning. During interrogation, Reddy reportedly acknowledged his role in the incident, claiming that the conspiracy was aimed at destabilizing the Congress-led state government for political gain, PTI reported.

As per the remand report, Reddy confessed to organising the assault on the Vikarabad collector under the direction of KTR and other key BRS leaders.

On the other hand, Telangana minister Ponnam Prabhakar condemned the attack, questioning KTR’s stance on the violence. People have a right to protest government decisions, but attacking an IAS officer is unacceptable, Prabhakar said. “We will protect the officers and strict action will be taken.”

The incident unfolded when Vikarabad District Collector Prateek Jain visited Lagcherla village to discuss public concerns about the proposed acquisition of farmland for a Pharma City project. The collector’s visit reportedly sparked tension, with villagers throwing stones and shouting slogans like “Go back”. Multiple officials, including an additional collector, the Kodangal Area Development Authority (KADA) chairman, and a DSP-ranked police officer, were injured in the attack.

According to police, the villagers protested the land acquisition project, which they said threatened their livelihoods. Several arrests have been made in connection with the assault, with authorities continuing to investigate the incident.
