The former MP chief minister secured 11,16,460 votes, while Congress’ Pratap Bhanu Sharma, a two-time parliamentarian, garnered 2,95,052 votes. This marks Chouhan’s sixth victory from Vidisha, a seat previously held by BJP stalwarts such as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1991), Sushma Swaraj (2009 and 2014), and newspaper baron Ramnath Goenka (1971). In 1967, the constituency came into existence and covers parts of the Raisen, Vidisha, Sehore, and Dewas districts.

In the ongoing electoral battle, Shivraj Singh Chouhan of the Bharatiya Janata Party has established a commanding lead with an impressive tally of 906,605 votes. His significant margin places him well ahead of his closest competitor, Pratapbhanu Sharma of the Indian National Congress, who trails behind with 235,010 votes. For vote counting day, 18 companies of central forces, 45 companies of Special Armed Forces (SAF), and 10,000 personnel from district security forces have been deployed. The postal ballots have been transported to the counting centers since 3 pm on Monday, accompanied by authorized representatives of political parties. "The ballots from service voters will be accepted at the counting centers until 8 am on Tuesday, with special passes issued to postal department employees for this purpose. A total of 37,573 service votes have been received by the concerned district returning officers. Additionally, the home voting facility was utilized by 35,211 individuals above 85 years of age and 12,816 Divyangjan (persons with disabilities)," the State's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said.
Prominent BJP candidates who were leading included Jyotiraditya Scindia (Guna), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Vidisha), Faggan Singh Kulaste (Mandla), Shankar Lalwani (Indore), VD Sharma (Khajuraho), Sandhya Rai (Bhind), Lata Wankhede (Sagar), Virendra Kumar (Tikamgarh), Alok Sharma (Bhopal) and Rodmal Nagar (Rajgarh).

Only those postal ballot papers received by the RO before the hour fixed for the commencement of counting will be considered. After 30 minutes of counting postal ballots, the counting of votes from EVMs commences. If there are no postal ballot papers in the constituency, the counting of votes from EVMs can begin at the scheduled time.
