With assets worth over Rs 622 crore, Congress candidate from Karnataka’s Mandya Venkataramane Gowda is the richest candidate contesting in Lok Sabha second phase elections, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Following Gowda is Congress candidate from Bangalore rural constituency DK Suresh, who is the brother of Congress leader DK Shivakumar, has declared assets worth over Rs 593 crore, and BJP candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura and actor Hemamalini has assets worth over Rs 278 crore.

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 1192 out of 1198 candidates, who are contesting in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase II in 12 states. Six candidates, including five from Kerala, could not be analysed due to the unavailability of properly scanned reports at the time of making of the report.

Out of the 1192 candidates contesting in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, 390 (33 per cent) are “crorepatis”.

There are six candidates candidates contesting in the second phase who have declared zero assets.

Among candidates with low assets are Independent candidates Laxman Nagorao Patil (Nanded, Maharashtra), Rajeswari KR (Kasaragod, Kerala) and Pruthvisamrat Mukindrao Dipwansh (Amravati (SC), Maharashtra), who have declared assets worth Rs 500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively.

A total of 140 candidates have declared assets of Rs five crore and more, 112 candidates have assets between Rs two crore to five crore, and 353 candidates have declared assets of less than Rs 10 lakh.

The average asset per candidate contesting in the Lok Sabha phase II election is Rs 5.17 crores.
