Uttarkashi flash flood: A recent cloudburst in Uttarkashi’s Uttarakhand on Tuesday resulted in a flash flood. Videos circulating online showed the trail of destruction left behind after the flood swept away the entire Dharali village in the area. In a video shared on X, a person can be seen pulling himself out of the debris in Uttarkashi. The person got stuck in the debris after the flash flood swept the nearby area. The identity of the survivor has not been established at the time of filing this report.

At least four people are confirmed dead in the flash flood, Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya told reporters. However, the videos of the flash flood show that the death toll can get higher. According to reports, shortly after the Dharali flood, another cloudburst was reported in the Sukhi Top area of Uttarkashi.

Dharali is home to hotels, home stays

Dharali is the main stopover on the way to Gangotri and home to many hotels, restaurants and home stays. The devastating flash flood came in the wake of a cloudburst somewhere in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga river, locals told PTI.

An Army team from Harsil has been rushed to the spot. A villager told PTI that about 10-12 people could be buried under the debris. The villager added that 20-25 hotels and homestays may have been washed away.
