Five people were killed and several others injured after a bus fell into a gorge near Kunjapuri-Hindolakhal in Uttarakhand. The vehicle dropped nearly 70 metres after skidding off the road while travelling through Tehri district on Monday. Multiple people were rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh with grievous wounds following the accident.
“Some people have suffered internal injuries, while some have head injuries. Five people were brought here dead,” hospital PRO Sandeep Kumar told ANI.
“The injured passengers from the bus accident in Kunjapuri were brought to AIIMS Rishikesh. Four injured individuals have been admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh for treatment…Five people have died in the accident, and their bodies have been kept at AIIMS Rishikesh. All the passengers are reported to be from Gujarat,” a survivor added.
CM Dhami condoles incident
Top officials including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami have since expressed their sorrow over the incident.
“The news of the bus accident near Kunjapuri Temple in Narendra Nagar, Tehri, is extremely heartbreaking. I pray to God that the departed souls find a place at His divine feet and that the grieving families are granted the strength to endure this immense sorrow. The injured in the accident are being sent to the nearest hospital by the district administration and SDRF, and the seriously injured have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. In this regard, I am in constant contact with the local authorities,” the CM wrote on X.
Tamil Nadu bus collision
The incident came even as a separate incident in Tamil Nadu saw two passenger busses collide in Tenkasi district. At least six people including a child were killed and more than 50 people hospitalised in the aftermath. According to reports, the injured have been admitted to the hospital with severe injuries including fractures to their arms, legs, and head. At least 55 people were travelling in the two vehicles when the accident occurred.
