A BJP leader was booked for allegedly raping a minor girl in Champawat district of Uttarakhand, police said, PTI reported.

The accused is identified as Kamal Rawat. Champawat is the assembly constituency of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

The girl’s mother has lodged the complaint alleging that Rawat had raped her daughter on multiple occasions and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

Police has said that Rawat is booked under sections 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

He is absconding and efforts are on to arrest him, said Champawat Superintendent of Police (SP) Devendra Pincha.

He said that her medical examination will be conducted on Saturday following which her statement will be recorded in the court.
