Today was the first session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after the new government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took over from his predecessor Akhilesh Yadav. However, in shocking scenes, MLAs from the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) disrupted the proceedings on the first day itself even as UP Governor Ram Naik was going through his opening address.
Opposition MLAs threw paper balls at the Governor while others blew whistles and did not let him complete his opening address. BSP and the SP are in the opposition in the state assembly.
In the 403 member assembly, BJP has as many as 325 MLAs
