The US Supreme Court has approved the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, convicted for his role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, dismissing his review petition against his conviction. India had sought his extradition as he is wanted in connection with the terrorist attacks. This ruling marks the end of Rana’s legal options to avoid extradition, following unsuccessful appeals in several federal courts, including the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

On November 13, Rana filed a “petition for a writ of certiorari” with the US Supreme Court, but it was rejected on January 21, the day after Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration.

The Supreme Court’s response was clear: “Petition DENIED.”

Rana is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles.
