A couple and their three young children were found dead at their home in the Lisadi Gate area of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, police said Tuesday, reports PTI.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vipin Tada, who visited the scene Thursday night, said police received a call about a house that had been locked from the outside. Upon investigation, officers gained access through the roof, where they discovered the bodies of Moin, a mechanic, his wife Asma, and their three daughters – Afsa (8), Aziza (4), and Adiba (1).
The SSP said that the manner in which the house had been locked suggested the perpetrator might have been someone known to the family. Preliminary probe point to a possible old enmity as the motive, he said.
He added that one of the victims had been found with her legs tied with a bedsheet.
The family had recently moved to the area, and police are looking into their background to uncover any further details. Moin and Asma had been reported missing since Wednesday.
Moin’s brother, Salim, became concerned when he could not reach them. He arrived at the house with his wife, and after several unsuccessful attempts to open the door, they forced entry with help from neighbours.
Inside, they discovered Moin and Asma’s bodies on the floor, while the children’s bodies were concealed in a bed box.
Forensic teams are collecting evidence from the scene and probe in the case is underway, the SSP said.
