After Supreme Court granted interim bail to self-styled godman Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for the sexual assault of a minor, the victim’s father expressed his shock over his release, reports PTI.
“I haven’t been able to sleep since, as I am deeply concerned about my family’s safety,” he said, adding that Asaram had orchestrated the murders of four witnesses while in jail – Rajkot’s Amrut Prajapati, Akhil Gupta (a cook), Lucknow’s Rahul Sachan, and Shahjahanpur’s Kripal Singh.
He further alleged that Asaram had fabricated false cases against him in several cities and claimed that two witnesses are still missing.
The family of the rape victim in the Asaram Bapu case has been provided with additional security following the Supreme Court’s grant of interim bail to the self-styled godman on medical grounds.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar Sagar on Wednesday said that following the court’s decision, he personally visited the victim’s residence to meet with the family.
“A police guard is already deployed at the victim’s home and her father has a gunner for security. Additional police personnel are now being assigned, and necessary instructions have been issued to the relevant police station and circle officer to ensure the family’s safety,” Sagar said.
Sagar also noted that measures are being taken to repair malfunctioning CCTV cameras around the residence, and advised the victim’s father to inform authorities before leaving the house. “We are continuously monitoring the family’s safety as this is a high-profile case,” he added.
Asaram was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court until March 31, 2025, for medical reasons. The top court imposed specific conditions on his release, including him not meeting his followers.
Previously, Asaram had been granted parole several times, including a 7-day parole in 2018 and a 17-day parole in December 2024.
In 2013, Asaram was convicted of sexually assaulting a minor from Shahjahanpur at his Jodhpur ashram. The case, filed by the victim’s father in Delhi, led to Asaram being sentenced to life imprisonment.
