Tripura’s Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has alleged that an Agartala-Kolkata bus was attacked in Bangladesh, sparking fears among Indian passengers.
The incident reportedly took place on Bishwa Road in Bangladesh’s Brahmanbaria district. “A Sahyamoli Paribahan bus on the way from Tripura to Kolkata was attacked in Bangladesh’s Brahmanbaria Bishwa Road. The incident terrified Indian passengers on the bus. The bus was maintaining its lane when a truck intentionally hit it. At this point, an autorickshaw came in front of the bus, and the bus and the auto-rickshaw collided,” Chowdhury said in a Facebook post on Saturday, sharing images of the damaged bus.

Condemning the attack, he urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of Indian travellers.
The Agartala-Kolkata bus service via Dhaka significantly reduces travel time and costs compared to trains or flights, with the latter taking over 30 hours via Assam.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed receiving reports of the attack and said efforts were underway to gather more details.
“I have got information about a Kolkata-bound bus carrying passengers from Agartala coming under attack on Bishwa Road in Brahmanbaria on Saturday. I am trying to gather concrete information on the matter,” he said.
Expressing concern over the attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, Saha highlighted that the global community is witnessing the oppression they continue to face in the neighbouring country.
“Since our state is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, I have asked the BSF and the police to maintain strict vigil along the international border,” he said.
