Andhra Pradesh DGP Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao announced on Tuesday that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed by the state government, has temporarily paused its investigation into the alleged adulteration of Tirupati laddus with animal fats.
The decision comes as the matter is now sub-judice in the Supreme Court.
Over the last two days, the SIT has been reviewing the procurement and sampling processes to determine if and how the laddus could be adulterated, Rao informed.
“First they (SIT) have to understand the process, study it and take all the information, but in the meantime, an order has come from the Supreme Court and in line with that, we have stopped it (probe),” said the DGP while speaking to reporters. He added that it would be inappropriate to comment further on the matter, as the case is under the apex court’s purview.
The Supreme Court is set to hear the case on October 3. The top court is addressing a series of petitions, some of which call for a court-monitored investigation into the alleged use of animal fat in the preparation of Tirupati laddus.
