In what could come as a big shock for the shoppers this Diwali, three top malls in Delhi are facing shutdown fears. These malls are situated in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area, which is famous for its vibrant night life and shopping options. Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj, DLF Promenade and DLF Emporio are struggling with severe water shortage, which may lead to their doors getting closed temporarily before Diwali.

These malls host a number of popular brands across sectors from apparels, beauty products, accessories, and watches among others. The closure would severely hit the business, along with the incentives that retail employees eye during the festive season. Diwali is the year’s most-awaited and celebrated time for shopping and a shutdown at this point will have a serious impact on the business of these malls.

What is the current situation?

Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj, DLF Promenade and DLF Emporio are facing severe water shortage for a few days now, reported Jansatta, and hence, the authorities are mulling the option to temporarily close these malls. According to the report, the management of all three malls have confirmed that their water requirement is not being met for the past few days due to lesser supply by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

And the situation has worsened to the stage where nearly 70% toilets in the malls have been closed and the stores are not able to do the basic cleaning.

Officials of these malls have expressed concern that if the situation does not improve, they might have to temporarily close the malls till the water requirement is met.

Shops struggling to meet demands, food court impacted

All these malls house food courts that see significant crowds throughout the day. However, the water scarcity has made it difficult for the outlets to wash utensils, provide water or even do other common activities to provide proper service to their customers.

The business is already impacted, but the closure poses more danger to the outlets. What makes it more concerning is the timing. The festive season has just begun and the next three months are said to be the biggest business drivers of the year. As of now, there has been no official statement of the DJB on the matter.

The report added that several hotels in the area, and offices have also been impacted due the water crisis.
