Jammu and Kashmir terror attack: At least five tourist feared dead, several others injured in a terror attack in the upper meadows of Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Reuters reported quoting police sources. The incident happened around 2.30 pm on Tuesday.

According to police, gunshots were heard in the Baisaran valley, a picturesque area frequented by visitors. Security forces and police personnel swiftly rushed to the location upon receiving reports of the firing. Additional CRPF team has been rushed to the incident spot.

As per report, the terrorists attacked horse riding tourists in Pahalgam. Two-three terrorists came in military attire.

According to India Today sources, LeT proxy TRF claimed responsibility for the attack.

Several injured, a tourist shot in the head

Police confirmed that several tourists sustained injuries in the suspected terror attack. One woman survivor, speaking to PTI over the phone, revealed, “My husband was shot in the head while seven others were also injured in the attack.” The survivor appealed for immediate assistance to evacuate the injured to medical facilities.

Security forces in action

Following the reports of gunfire, security personnel and police teams moved quickly to Baisaran meadows to secure the area and assist the victims. The area is accessible only on foot or horseback, making the evacuation efforts more challenging.

Meanwhile, authorities have not yet released additional information about the attackers or the motive. An investigation is underway, and further updates are expected as security operations continue in the region.

CM Omar Abdullah condemn incident

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep anguish over the terror attack in Pahalgam, calling it an “abomination.” In a statement, he condemned the perpetrators as “inhuman and worthy of contempt,” adding that no words could adequately denounce such brutality. Abdullah extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and confirmed that his colleague, Sakina Itoo, had rushed to the hospital to oversee treatment for the injured. He announced plans to return to Srinagar immediately. Abdullah also noted that the exact death toll was still being confirmed, but acknowledged the attack as one of the worst against civilians in years.
