Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leader and former minister, Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy was detained late at night on Monday under charges of making offensive statements against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Minister RK Roja.
A case has been filed at Nagara Palem police station in Guntur district, under the jurisdiction of Andhra Pradesh, alleging violations of sections 41(A), 41(B), 153, 294, and 505 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), according to news agency ANI.
Bandaru sparked controversy with his derogatory remark on September 27, where he referred to YSRCP leader Roja as a ‘woman of the street,’ alleging to leak her explicit videos and driving Roja and her husband to the point of suicide if they continued making derogatory remarks about jailed former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his family members.
Following this incident, a team of Guntur Police reached Bandaru’s residence in Vennelapalem village, Parawada Mandal, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district, with the intention to serve a notice and take him into custody. However, Bandaru refused to open the door for an extended period, leading the team to eventually break in in order to apprehend him.
Following his arrest, the TDP leader was transported to Guntur. Notably, Bandaru had previously filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, as per ANI’s report.
