A suspect in the murder of Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief K Armstrong was shot down by police in Chennai on Sunday, reported the Indian Express. The police opened fire on the suspect because he was trying to run away after attacking an officer. The attack happened in Madhavaram, Chennai.
Who is the alleged suspect?
The alleged suspect, K Thiruvengadam, is 33 years old and has a criminal history. His name has been involved in three murders, including killing the BSP’s Tiruvallur district President in 2015. He is considered to be one of the main conspirators in Armstrong’s murder. As per an officer who told The Indian Express, Thiruvengadam played a major role in the murder, lethally executing the attack. He was also one of those who surrendered himself in front of the police after the murder. As of now, almost 11 suspects have been detained in the Armstrong murder case.
The police took him to Thiruvengadam to recover the murder weapons he had used in executing the offense. He then attacked the police and tried to flee but then the police opened fire and shot him dead. He was sent to a government hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.
On July 5, Armstrong was killed by a gang and the brutal incident drew huge criticism from the opposition parties on the worsening of law and order.
