Janata Dal (Secular) MLC Suraj Revanna, brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna, was arrested Sunday on charges of “unnatural offences” after a party worker accused him of sexual abuse, PTI reports, citing police sources.
Revanna, 37, was taken into custody following a complaint by a 27-year-old man who alleged the incident occurred at Revanna’s farmhouse in Ghannikada on June 16, according to police.
Suraj was questioned at CEN police station at Hassan overnight, before he was arrested, the sources said.
Based on the complaint, the Holenarasipura police registered a case against the JD(S) MLC under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) late on Saturday evening.
Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy, denied the accusations, claiming the complainant sought to extort Rs 5 crore from him. He accused the man of filing a false complaint.
Earlier, police had registered an extortion case against the JD(S) worker who allegedly demanded money from Revanna, threatening to file a sexual assault case. The demand reportedly started at Rs 5 crore but was reduced to Rs 2 crore.
Revanna’s brother Prajwal Revanna, a former MP from Hassan, is also facing legal issues related to alleged sexual assaults on multiple women.
Prajwal was arrested last month upon returning from Germany, where he had been staying since cases were filed against him for rape and intimidation.
Their parents, H D Revanna and Bhavani, are currently out on bail, accused of kidnapping a victim linked to Prajwal’s cases.
