Rani Kapur, the mother of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, has spoken out for the first time in an emotional public statement. She is asking for answers about her son’s sudden death and is urging that her family’s legacy not be forgotten. Her statement comes amid a growing family feud over control of Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore business empire, a story that has caught the attention of both the corporate world and Bollywood followers.
Sunjay Kapur was a well-known figure in both business and social circles and was earlier married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor. His sudden passing has left many questions unanswered, especially for his mother.
“I still don’t know what happened to my son,” Rani Kapur said in a statement to ANI. “I may be old and frail now, but my memory of being with my husband when Sona Comstar was set up is strong.”

Sunjay served as the chairman of Sona Comstar, a major auto components company based in Gurugram. After his death, tensions rose within the Kapur family. Rani Kapur has alleged that some family members are trying to take over the company in ways that go against what her late husband had planned.
‘Our family legacy must not be lost,’ says Rani Kapur
In her emotional message, Rani Kapur stressed how much the company means to the family.
“This company was built with care, sacrifice, and love,” she said. “I am here to remind the world that our family legacy must not be lost.”
Her remarks have added fuel to an already tense family dispute, which has now gone public and affected investor confidence. Shares of Sona Comstar have dropped, reflecting concerns over what’s happening behind the scenes.
Company responds
Sona Comstar responded strongly to Rani Kapur’s claims. In an official statement, the company said:
“She is neither a shareholder, director, nor officer of the Company. As such, she has no locus standi on any matter related to the Company. Any insinuation that she was coerced into signing documents or that her consent is required for Company affairs is completely baseless and legally untenable.”
Due to her age and health, Rani Kapur has said she will not speak publicly again and that all legal matters will be handled by her lawyers.
Priya Sachdev joins Sona Comstar board
After Sunjay Kapur’s passing, the company appointed Priya Sachdev, his wife at the time of his death, as an Additional Non-Executive Director of Sona Comstar.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the company said: “The Board of Directors of Sona Comstar has appointed Mrs. Priya Sachdev Kapur as an Additional Non-Executive Director on the Board.”
The company also shared details of her background: “Mrs. Priya Sachdev Kapur is a multifaceted entrepreneur and investor whose journey has spanned continents, industries, and ideas. Currently serving as Director at Aureus Investment Private Limited, she plays an active role in shaping its investment strategy.”
Before marrying Priya Sachdev in 2017, Sunjay Kapur was married to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2016 after 13 years.
