RJD leader and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav escaped unhurt early Saturday when a speeding truck rammed into two vehicles in his convoy in Vaishali district. The incident occurred around 12:30 am near Goraul on the Patna-Muzaffarpur National Highway while the convoy was halted for a tea break.

According to a senior police official, Yadav’s vehicle was not directly hit but three security personnel were injured in the crash. “They were returning to Patna from Madhepura when the accident occurred. The injured were rushed to a nearby government hospital and their condition is stable,” the official said.

Yadav visited the hospital to check on the injured personnel. While speaking with the media outside the hospital, he said, “We were returning from a programme in Madhepura and had stopped for tea. While we were stationary, a truck lost control and hit two to three of our vehicles right in front of me. Some of our security personnel were standing there…Three of them got injured.” Yadav further said that the accident happened just five feet away from him. He said the administration stopped the truck on the next toll.

Vaishali SP Lalit Mohan Sharma confirmed that among the injured were two convoy security personnel and one district policeman. “Two of them have been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), while the third is being treated in Hajipur,” Sharma said. Doctors have declared all three out of danger. Police have arrested the truck driver and his assistant and the vehicle has been seized.

Calling for strict enforcement of traffic laws, Yadav said, “Action must be taken against those who violated traffic rules. This could have been much worse.”

SP Sharma said, “The truck driver and the helper have been arrested, and the truck has also been detained. According to our preliminary findings, the vehicle first collided with a Bolero, after which it rammed into the convoy. As of now, our initial investigation has not revealed any evidence of drinking and driving.”
