Seven personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) sustained injuries when the bus they were traveling in overturned on the Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway near Takshila on Saturday afternoon. The incident took place at approximately 3:45 PM, according to officials, reported PTI.
District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt stated that the bus was carrying a total of 39 ITBP jawans when the accident occurred. While the exact cause of the mishap remains unclear, preliminary reports suggest that the bus lost control before overturning on the highway. The injured personnel were immediately transported via ambulance to the nearby Primary Health Center (PHC) in Fakot, where they received medical attention. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the jawans were reported to be minor.
Local authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine what caused the bus to overturn. Road safety concerns on hilly terrains, such as the Rishikesh-Gangotri route, have been an ongoing issue, and officials are looking into whether any external factors, such as weather or road conditions, played a role in the incident.
The ITBP, responsible for border security along the Indo-China border, frequently traverses these routes as part of routine operations, making safety measures on such challenging highways a critical concern.
