Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has praised a Bengaluru doctor for saving the life of an American woman onboard a Goa–Delhi flight during an emergency situation. The doctor happens to be a former MLA from Khanpur, and administered timely CPR to a woman who suddenly suffered a condition wherein time becomes important, and CPR is considered the best way to revive the patients to buy them time to the hospital.
Praising Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, the Chief Minister said she has been away from the medical profession for sometime as she has been busy with the work relating to her constituency after joining politics.
“Deeply moved and incredibly proud to hear about the remarkable presence of mind and compassion shown by former Khanapur MLA Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar during a Goa–New Delhi flight,” the CM said in an X post. He added that when an American woman suffered a medical emergency mid-air, “Dr. Anjali instantly rose to the occasion and administered timely CPR, saving a precious life”.
CM calls act ‘inspiring’
Sharing the photo of the doctor along with the American woman, the Chief Minister called the act “inspiring”. He said that despite having stepped away from her medical profession and being actively engaged in politics, the doctor within her responded without a second thought.
“This selfless act reflects not just professional expertise, but a profound sense of humanity, service, and responsibility toward fellow beings,” he added.
Hailing the Bengaluru doctor’s presence of mind and quick action, Siddaramaiah said whether in power or not, “leaders like Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar stand as shining examples of true public service—always ready to help, without expecting anything in return. Such individuals set a powerful standard for society and remind us of the true meaning of leadership”.
“I pray that God blesses her with long life and good health, and continues to use her as an instrument to save and uplift many more lives in times of need,” he added.
What is CPR?
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a Basic Life Saving Skill in which Chest Compressions are given which mimic the pumping action of the Heart. These compressions help keep the blood flowing to the vital organs and should be continued till professional help arrives as this single handedly improves the chances of survival.
The need to learn CPR is of utmost importance as this basic skill can be life-saving in the time of need. It is usually given in cases of cardiac arrest.
A cardiac arrest is sudden cessation of the pumping capacity of one’s heart. Our Heart works like a pump to circulate the blood to all the vital organs of the body namely brain, liver, kidney etc. When the Heart stops, blood does not reach the vital organs which leads to cell necrosis and ultimately death.
