Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Sunday that he had prayed for a solution to the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute and expressed his belief that faith in God would lead to a resolution.
Chandrachud, who was speaking at a felicitation event in his native Kanhersar village, Khed taluka, shared his reflections on the case. “Very often we have cases (to adjudicate) but we don’t arrive at a solution. Something similar happened during the Ayodhya (Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute) which was in front of me for three months. I sat before the deity and told him he needs to find a solution,” he said, PTI reported.
The CJI, emphasising his regular practice of prayer, said, “Believe me, if you have faith, God will always find a way.”
A five-judge Supreme Court bench, including Chandrachud, delivered the landmark verdict on November 9, 2019, resolving the Ayodhya dispute. The ruling paved the way for the construction of a Ram temple and allotted an alternative five-acre plot for a mosque in Ayodhya.
In July, Chandrachud visited the Ram Temple and offered prayers ahead of the idol consecration held on January 22, 2024, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
