Tennis Star Saina Nehwal has announced separation from her husband Parupalli Kashyap, who is also a former shuttler, in an Instagram Story after over six years of marriage. Nehwal’s bombshell post came a few hours back, where she cited “choosing peace, growth and healing” for each other.
‘Wish nothing but…’
“Life takes us in different directions sometimes,” she wrote in her Instagram Story.
She added, “After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing for ourselves and each other.”
Nehwal further added, “I’m grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time.”

Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on December 14, 2018. The couple used to train together at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad.
Nehwal, who is tagged as one of the greatest badminton players of all time, has many firsts under her name. She is the first Indian player to have clinched an Olympic medal in badminton. Nehwal finished with a bronze medal at the London 2012. Additionally, she is also the first Indian to have reached the final of the Badminton World Championships. The 29-year-old is also the first to have won the BWF World Junior Championships.
The ace badminton player, who is from Haryana’s Hisar, has been awarded the Padma Bhushan – the third-highest civilian award – and the Padma Shri – the fourth-highest civilian award in India. She has also been awarded the Khel Ratna, also known as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award – the highest award in sports – and the Arjuna Award, the second highest award in sports for outstanding performance in sports.
Nehwal joined the BJP on January 29 in 2020, after she said that PM Modi has always inspired him and has been working hard for India. She also hinted towards her retirement towards the end of 2025, given her arthritis.
Kashyap, on the other hand, won gold in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and made his place in the world top 10. After starting the year 2015 on a disappointing note and failing to qualify for the Olympics in 2016 and 2020, and a spot in the team for the 2018 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, he turned to coaching students.
He shared loved-up pictures on Instagram for Nehwal on her 29th birthday and wrote, “They say teamwork makes the dream work… but let’s be honest, I’m mostly just here for moral support.”
