Hitting out at RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat for his controversial comment on Mother Teresa, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi said it was an uncivilised comment against a noble person.

“It was unnecessary, and an uncivilised comment against a noble person who is no more and it has brought up an unnecessary problem for the BJP government,” he said in a statement here.

Citing the conferment of top awards like Bharat Ratna and Nobel Prize on Mother Teresa, he hailed her for her 50-year work in service of the poor.

Bhagwat had said during a function in Rajasthan on February 23 that the main objective behind Mother Teresa’s service to the poor was conversion to Christianity. The comment had triggered widespread condemnation from various quarters.
