The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday summoned Robert Vadra for questioning him in the money laundering case related to a land deal in Shikohpur, Haryana, reported PTI. Vadra claimed that the ED’s summons were driven by “political vendetta by the BJP”. After reaching the ED office in Delhi, Vadra shared his frustration about the ongoing investigation. He said there was nothing serious in the case and hoped that it would come to an end soon, reported ANI.
Vadra, 56, is a businessman and brother-in-law of leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. He was first summoned on April 8 for this case but he failed to depose then. Vadra told ANI that he is being targeted for speaking up on public issues and that the ruling BJP is using agencies like the ED to distract people from real problems. He said that every time he shows interest in joining politics or raises his voice for the people, older cases are brought up against him to create pressure.
A group of Congress supporters also raised slogans against the Modi government and accused it of misusing the ED to intimidate political rivals. Vadra also expressed disappointment over how long the investigation has been going on. Vadra said he has been called multiple times—15 so far—and has already spent long hours answering questions and submitting over 23,000 documents. Now, he said, the ED has asked for all those documents again in just one week, which he called unreasonable, reported ANI.
A day earlier, Vadra had expressed his openness to join the political world. He said that if the Congress party asked him to step into a formal role, he would consider it with his family’s support. He mentioned that his political involvement has so far been limited to being part of the Gandhi family, but over the years, many parties have brought his name into political discussions—especially during elections or times of controversy—as a way to divert attention.
Vadra said he often felt like he was being singled out for political reasons, but also acknowledged that he has learned a lot from his family, particularly from Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who are both active in Parliament.
