In a dramatic daylight robbery that has left Ghaziabad residents in shock, two men disguised as food delivery agents looted a jewellery shop and escaped with valuables worth over Rs 35 lakh in just six minutes. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Brij Vihar area under the jurisdiction of the Link Road police station.

What do we know about the robbery?

The incident took place at Mansi Jewellers, where two unidentified men arrived on a motorbike around 3:30 pm. Wearing uniforms of popular online delivery companies—Swiggy and Blinkit—the men posed as delivery agents before barging into the store, which was temporarily being manned by an 18-year-old employee, Shubham Kumar. The shop owner, Krishna Kumar Verma, had stepped out briefly at the time.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sahibabad, Shweta Yadav, stated, “The suspects forced their way in, brandished a country-made firearm, and physically assaulted the staff before looting the store.”

The robbers made away with nearly 20 kilograms of silver, 125 grams of gold, and Rs 20,000 in cash. As per current market rates, the total value of the loot is estimated between Rs 35 and Rs 38 lakh. Verma alleged that the duo, after slapping and threatening the employee, stuffed jewellery into bags and fled the scene in a matter of minutes.

The audacity of the crime has left the local community rattled, especially given the speed and manner in which it was carried out.

Police investigation underway

The Ghaziabad Police have launched a probe and registered a case based on Verma’s complaint. CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being reviewed to identify the culprits. The police confirmed that one of the suspects wore a jacket of an online food delivery company, while the other donned a tracksuit of another delivery brand, likely as a disguise to avoid suspicion.

“The robbers appeared well-prepared and executed the crime swiftly while the shop was momentarily vulnerable,” said ACP Yadav. Authorities are also looking into whether the duo had been monitoring the shop’s movements before striking.

The incident has sparked concern among local shopkeepers and residents, with calls for increased police patrolling and improved safety measures in commercial areas. The police have assured that every effort is being made to track down the suspects and recover the stolen items.
