Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday issued an appeal to voters to vote for Congress for a brighter and more equal future for all. STating that youth unemployment, crimes against women, and discrimination against Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities have reached unprecedented levels, Gandhi said that these challenges stem from the ‘niyat’ and ‘niti’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party which aim for power rejecting inclusivity and dialogue.
“The sight of our Constitution and democracy being under threat, our poor being left behind, and the fact that the fabric of our society is being torn apart fills me with anguish,” she said in a short video shared by the Congress party on its official X handle.
“Today, in every corner of the country, youth are facing unemployment, women are facing atrocities, Dalits, tribals, backward classes and minorities are facing terrible discrimination. This atmosphere is due to the intentions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. Their focus is only on gaining power at any cost,” said Gandhi.
She further appealed for support for the Congress, claiming that its ‘Nyay Patra’, or manifesto, and guarantees aim to unite the nation and work for the poor, youth, women, farmers, workers, and the disadvantaged communities of India. “The Congress and the INDIA parties are committed to defend our Constitution and democracy,” she said.
Gandhi also asked the people to reject the proponents of hatred and lies and vote for Congress for a more equal future for all. “Press the hand button and together, let us build a stronger, more united India with peace and harmony for all,” she said.
The appeal coincided with the conclusion of the third phase of Lok Sabha elections with voting scheduled to end at 5 PM today. The seven-phase elections are scheduled to end on June 1 with the counting of votes set to be taken up on June 4.
