Media personality and Ramoji Group Chairman Ch Ramoji Rao passed away at a hospital in Hyderabad, at the age of 88, on early Saturday (June 8). Rao had been under treatment for the past few days.
He succumbed at 4:50 am, as reported by ETV Telangana, one of the Ramoji Group channels. His mortal remains were transported to his residence in Ramoji Film City on the outskirts of the city.
Ramoji Rao’s legacy
In 2016, he was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, presented by then-President Pranab Mukherjee.
Rao leaves behind a substantial legacy marked by numerous thriving business ventures and media productions. With his guidance, Eenadu emerged as a dominant presence in Telugu media.
Among his notable ventures are Usha Kiran Movies, a renowned film production house, Mayuri Film Distributors, a prominent film distribution company, Margadarsi Chit Fund, a financial services firm, and Dolphin Group of Hotels, a successful hotel chain. Additionally, he served as the head of the ETV Network of television channels.
PM Modi’s tribute to Ramoji Rao
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on Saturday at the passing of the esteemed media personality Ramoji Rao, lauding him as a visionary who transformed Indian media. Modi remarked that Rao’s significant contributions have made an enduring impact on journalism and the film industry. Through his remarkable endeavors, Rao established new benchmarks for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment realm, Modi added.
“Ramoji Rao Garu was extremely passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have got several opportunities to interact with him and benefit from his wisdom. Condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers during this difficult time. Om Shanti,” PM Modi said in a tweet.
