Ram Lalla Surya Tilak: On the occasion of Ram Navami, the forehead of Ram Lalla was anointed by Sun’s rays during the ‘Surya Tilak’ or ‘Surya Abhishek’ ceremony at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

This is the first Ram Navami after the ‘pran pratishtha’ of the Ram Lalla idol at the new temple, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated on January 22.

Using cutting-edge scientific expertise, a 5.8 centimetre beam of light illuminated the deity’s forehead.

Ram Navami, this year, holds special significance for Ayodhya and devotees worldwide as it marks the first celebration of Lord Ram’s birth at the newly inaugurated temple. To mark the birth of Ram Lalla, the ceremony of Surya Tilak was performed at 12 pm in the sanctum sanctorum.

The Surya Tilak, designed by Indian scientists, is made possible through a mirror and lens apparatus, developed by scientists from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) in Roorkee, a part of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

As the sunlight brightened up Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, PM Modi chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans at a rally in Assam, alongside Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

PM Modi said, “…There is a new atmosphere in the entire country and this birthday of Lord Ram has come after 500 years, when he got the privilege of celebrating his birthday in his own home.”
