Police in Rajasthan have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a judicial magistrate following allegations that he instructed a rape survivor to remove her clothes and show her wounds, reported The Indian Express.
The alleged incident took place on March 20 around 10 am, when the woman visited the magistrate’s office to provide her statement regarding the rape case, according to the FIR.
After recording her statement and as she was leaving, the magistrate purportedly called her back.
According to the FIR, she said, “I was called back and asked to remove my clothes so he could see the bruises. I said, ‘how can I show you my bruises?’ I would have been comfortable in front of a woman, but the judge insisted. Then the judge told me not to inform anyone regarding this matter. I request authorities to take action in this matter.”
Although the judge has not been named, the FIR was lodged on March 30.
Mina Meena, Deputy Superintendent of the SC/ST cell, said that the investigation is underway.
“We have started the process and, after recording her statement under 164 CrPC, we will apply for permission to question the magistrate,” said Meena.
