The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts for rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, The Indian Express reported.

Although no official warnings have been issued for Mumbai, the weather department has forecast light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder activity in the city, beginning Monday.

As of Saturday morning, the water levels in the seven lakes supplying Mumbai’s drinking water reached 98.38% of their full capacity, totaling 14.23 lakh million litres. The official monsoon withdrawal date for Mumbai is October 10.

Rainfall in Mumbai

For the past few weeks, Mumbai has seen minimal rain, recording just 173 mm of rainfall in September so far – less than 50% of the city’s monthly average of 360 mm.

IMD data revealed that between Friday and Saturday morning, the Colaba station recorded no rainfall, while the Santacruz station measured 2.4 mm. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures remained around 32 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures in the suburbs dropping to 25.4 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers to affect Mumbai starting Monday.
