The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in multiple states for Wednesday. Additionally, the weather forecasting agency has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Delhi today, warning of significant precipitation. Additionally, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected to persist over Gujarat State, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra over the next two days, followed by continued heavy to very heavy rainfall. According to IMD, rainfall activity is anticipated to intensify over the Indo-Gangetic plains during the same period.
“Isolated extremely heavy rainfall very likely continue over Gujarat State, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra during next 2 days and heavy to very heavy rainfall thereafter,” IMD said in its latest weather forecast. “Rainfall activity is likely to increase over Indo-Gangetic plains during next 2 days,” it added.
Over the next five days, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected across several regions. These include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh.
There is a possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and East Rajasthan on July 24. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan from July 23-27, West Uttar Pradesh and Jammu on July 24. Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist over West Rajasthan in the next 24 hours.
Heavy rain lashes parts of Delhi, Noida
Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy rainfall in the wee hours of Wednesday, providing a brief relief from the prevailing humid conditions. Rain lashed several parts of the national capital. The meteorological department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the national capital and surrounding areas, indicating the likelihood of further showers later in the day.
The forecast from the IMD, shared via social media, covers locations including Delhi University, Civil Lines, Kashmiri Gate, Seelampur, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Patel Nagar, Red Fort, Preet Vihar, Budha Jayanti Park, and the President’s House. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach around 36 degrees Celsius, with minimums likely to hover near 27 degrees Celsius.
IMD predicts very heavy rainfall in Gujarat
According to the IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in central Gujarat, south Gujarat, and Saurashtra districts, including Kutch, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Gir Somnath, over the next two days. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported significant rainfall figures for various talukas on Tuesday.
Dwarka taluka in Devbhumi Dwarka district recorded 158 mm of rainfall from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. This was followed by Mandvi taluka in Kutch district with 141 mm, Jodia in Jamnagar with 134 mm, Nakhatrana in Kutch with 127 mm, Palsana in Surat with 120 mm, and Rapar in Kutch with 108 mm of rainfall during the same period.
Rajasthan to witness showers for next 4-5 days
Rainfall is expected to persist over the next four to five days in various locations across Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Kota, and Ajmer divisions in eastern Rajasthan. Some areas of the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions in western Rajasthan are also likely to experience rain. The region will continue to experience humid weather due to high moisture levels in the atmosphere over the next 24 hours. Subsequently, the maximum temperatures are anticipated to decrease by 2-3 degrees Celsius. The highest recorded rainfall was in Bhopal Sagar, Chittorgarh, at 98 mm, and Tivri, Jodhpur, at 92 mm.
