Pune Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar said on Friday that the teen was in his “full senses” and an attempt was made to switch drivers after the Porsche crashed with a bike, killing two people, to save the teen from landing in trouble.

After the teen’s father claimed that the car was being driven by the family driver, a claim that was backed by two other people who were inside the car at the time of crash, Amitesh Kumar said, “Effort was made to change the driver during that period…We are investigating this also…It is true that at the start the driver had said that he was driving the car…We are investigating this part also under whose pressure the driver made that statement we are investigating it.”

While addressing a press conference, Pune CP Amitesh Kumar also addressed questions about the delay of blood report, to find out whether the teen was intoxicated on the day of the incident, the top cop said, “We have the CCTV footage of him drinking liquor in the pub…The point of saying this is that our case is not alone depending on the blood report we have other evidence also. He (minor accused) was in his senses.”

“It was not as if all of them were so drunk that they could not understand anything. They had full knowledge that due to their conduct, an incident like section 304 can happen. There is no fact about the pizza party at the police station,” Amitesh Kumar added.

The accident took place in the early hours of Sunday, when the 17-year-old, who had been drinking, as seen in CCTV footage, with his friends in two pubs in Pune to celebrate his Class 12 results, knocked down two IT professionals in the Kalyani Nagar area, who died on the spot.
